由於定向支架沒有迴轉軌道，同尺寸下承重更高、所需推力更低：重型推車常見一對萬向輪加一對定向輪的組合。
實務原則是：推車行程中直線占比越高，定向腳輪的回報越大。長走道、拖引列車與軌道導引推車是天然適用場景；需要頻繁轉彎的狹窄空間則需要萬向輪。
